ABOUT US
What's in a Name?
When our son was four years old, he was always looking for ways to make us laugh. Most times, he did so by being goofy or making up silly songs. He normally got his biggest laughs, however, when he was mad. For awhile, when he was completely frustrated with one of us, he would clench his little jaw and say, “You a BABYFACE!” For him, that was the biggest insult he could think of and the perfect way to end an argument. For us, it was a sure way to get a smile. We also thought it was a perfect name for our little operation.
The Man Behind the Dogs
“He is either going to be a teacher or a vet,” his mother always said. Teaching kids and caring for any and all animals was what he enjoyed most. He became a teacher in 1991… and he was quite good at it.
When I met him, he had recently divorced after nearly 12 years of marriage and he had no children. He was helping my sister and her husband move and we didn’t say a word to each other. Not long after that first encounter, he and my brother-in-law arranged a New Year’s Eve party for just the four of us. Three months and five days after that New Year’s Eve party, we were married. Although I had a son from my first marriage, and he was an excellent step-father, he really wanted a child of his own. About four months after our wedding, I was thrilled to give him the news that I was pregnant. “Excited” doesn’t come close to describing his reaction. In April of the following year we were blessed with a precious little girl. Two years later he got more good news – I was pregnant again! This time, God chose to bless us with a little boy. We now had three children to raise and we considered our house full. We settled in to our new lives and the day to day of working, raising our children, and trying to keep the house in one piece.
Just after our youngest son had his second birthday, we made the very difficult decision to have one of us become a stay-at-home parent. We went against tradition with this decision and he resigned his teaching position to stay home with the kids. After all, he has a way with children, was already home with them during the summer, and his teacher’s salary was less to give up than my own. Our plan was for him to go back to teaching after our youngest son started Kindergarten in the fall of 2011. But the summer of 2009 brought us an unexpected surprise. I was pregnant once again and our second little girl was born in April of 2010.
We have always had animals in the house. Rarely would you find less than three dogs and a cat or two hanging around. We have fostered many dogs over the years and we have the scars to prove it – chewed up corners on the stairs, claw marks on the lower window panes, wallpaper that has been gnawed and peeled off, porch boards that have been chewed on, etc. The problem is… the animal lover in my husband didn’t go away when he decided to become a teacher. He’s never met an animal he didn’t want to help or bring into our home. Because of his soft heart, many dogs have been given a second chance and a new home.
After a while, I became concerned with bringing strays into the house because of the children. Most times, we did not know the history of the animal or what it was capable of doing. We also wanted our children to have a pet to which they could become attached instead of simply identifying birthdays and holidays based on which animals were in the pictures.
Many years ago my parents introduced us to the joy of the Golden Retriever. They currently have six in their house and consider each one an important part of their family. The intelligence, loyalty, sweetness and beauty of this breed is undeniable. They are truly the perfect family dog and companion.
The decision to breed these magnificent animals was not made lightly. Our love for the English Cream Golden Retriever, along with the intelligence, temperament and fewer health issues than the American Golden, are the main reasons we chose this breed.
It is our desire to share this wonderful breed with others so they, too, can experience the fullness and joy that owning an English Cream Golden Retriever has brought to our family.
